Checking out The Beastro at the Sedgwick County Zoo

As a member of the Sedgwick County Zoo, I wanted to make sure to start taking full advantage of my membership. That included checking out The Beastro which is the restaurant located on site at the zoo. I haven’t stepped foot in there in probably 30 years. So, this was going to be like walking into an entirely new restaurant.

….and walking into a new restaurant it was. The Beastro was renovated in 2020 and was so sleek and modern. It now seats 280 people and even has a big patio that gives you a great view of the pond.

They even added wood-fired pizza to the new digs.

We were quite impressed with the place and were more excited to try the food. Our order consisted of a 10-inch pepperoni pizza and the turkey bacon club with fries.

Having dined at various zoos and family entertainment establishments in the past, our expectations were rather low. The Beastro definitely impressed us and set the bar for family entertainment venues. The pepperoni pizza had a great ratio of cheese, sauce and pepperoni. I’m not confident if it’d beat many of the dedicated wood-fired pizza places around town but for what we received, it was quite delicious. The crust had a nice crisp yet doughy texture.

The club sandwich was piled high. It may not look like it in the picture, but there was plenty of meat in the sandwich to fill any adult appetite. And the fries were a big hit with our daughter…. the only complaint she had was she wish they offered a bit more in the basket.

The best part of it was not getting charged an arm and a leg. One of the worst parts about going to some family entertainment establishments is overpriced food that is lazily made just to say they offer food. The Beastro put out a quality product in a fantastic beautifully renovated building. $9 for a club sandwich with fries and $9 for a 10-inch wood-fired pizza isn’t bad at all.

If they can offer more toppings in the future on those pizzas, I’m definitely coming back for that.

But with my family membership, we’ll be coming back anyway.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
