I share the same birth month as some friends. Over the years, we’ve all spread out with some moving out of state. We wanted to get together and do something different. One of my friends threw out the idea of going to Spring Lake RV Resort and Campgrounds in Halstead, KS. We have a few friends who own RV’s, it was a very family-friendly environment and it was something unique to do for a birthday.
Me? I’m probably the least outdoorsy person in my circle of friends but I’m probably the most open to experiencing different things. So, we invited a bunch of friends out to Spring Lake over the weekend. For me, it was less about the birthday celebration than it was being around friends I haven’t seen in over a year. It was almost like a college reunion of sorts being around buddies I’ve been friends with for 20-30 years.
If you’ve never been to or heard of Spring Lake, it’s located in Halstead which is roughly a 40-minute drive northwest of Wichita. It’s literally down the street from Newton, KS just 13 miles west of there.
Spring Lake is focused on providing affordable and fun family vacations. Whether you’re an RV enthusiast, enjoy the comfort of a cabin so you can glamp like me, want to do tent camping, they have all those options available. They have amenities such as Wi-Fi, onsite propane, a family entertainment center, laundry facilities, and more.
Extracurriculars available include a swimming pool, miniature golf, exercise room, fishing, playgrounds, bingo and karaoke. There’s literally something there for everyone.
They even have a stage on the resort. We hired Mountain Deer Revival who put on an awesome show.
While many friends have RV’s, others stayed in their cabins that sleep up to six people. The cabins included A.C., a bathroom, small kitchen area with a fridge and microwave and tables. It was great for someone like me who is spoiled by the luxuries of life. The cabin rental rates were just $60 plus tax.
Other friends opted to stay in these facilities called hobos which was about the size of a shed and slept two people. They included a bed and air conditioning. Those were just $25 a night and spread out all over the resort.
Spring Lake’s big 90-acre resort made for a fun weekend to be among family and friends. I’m very glued to my phone and the moment I arrived, I all about disconnected from it thus why I don’t have as many pictures as I should.
As I get older, I’m all about stepping outside my comfort zone and celebrating occasions differently from the norm. This was a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, be reunited with friends and awesome fodder for the blog to share with others.
Definitely add Spring Lake to your bucket list of family fun. There are families who stay for the weekend, a week long, a month and even the entire summer.
They are located at 1308 S. Spring Lake Road Halstead, KS 67056. To book a spot for your RV or any other lodging accommodations, check out their webpage or call 316-835-3443. You can also visit their Facebook page to see more pictures.
