When I arrived, I was quickly greeted with complimentary chips, queso and salsa. Both dips had a very minor bit of heat to it and was a little more on the runny side. No real complaints here though as it was free and two bowls I polished off within minutes.
I went with two meals on my visit. The first was their seafood tacos. They had shrimp and tilapia options. Not wanting to decide, I ended up with both. I never know what to expect when ordering fish tacos from places; some offer it fried and others don’t. Azul 21 fried theirs up and topped them with a spicy house coleslaw that I loved. Often times, fried fish has a heavy savoriness to it. Their coleslaw really livened up the tacos and gave it a zesty appeal. It was a fantastic combination. To add to it, two tacos made for quite a fulfilling lunch.
I could have gone with just two tacos but forgot I had beef quesadillas on my way. My second meal was the Santa Fe quesadillas which came with bell peppers, onions and served with rice, beans and a salad. It was quite the gigantic meal for $11.99. The quesadillas were thick and stuffed to the max. I literally only ate one before calling it a lunch and taking the rest home as a gift for my family. There wasn’t anything overly special about the quesadillas; just a good simple meal that hit the spot. And having food as I walked in the door scored me some brownie points.
Overall, it was a good first visit to the new Azul 21 Mexican Restaurant.
The service was fantastic and friendly throughout my lunch. They made suggestions when I asked for it, my drink was refilled in a timely manner, and there was a positive attitude to everyone in the building. Right before I left, somebody asked if I enjoyed my meal. I nodded and said I did. They then said, “Be sure to tell your friends.”
I always get a good laugh when people say that to me.
