Earlier this year, Tacos TJ 664 moved further north to a new building on 1014 N. West Street. Many long-time readers will remember they were voted the Most Liked Taco out of 128 different taco options around Wichita. I wanted to check out their new digs and give you a look inside if you have yet to stop.

Two of the most significant changes that diners will love are the size of the parking lot and added seating capacity. There’s so much more space including a private room you can book.
My favorite display inside the restaurant was the Most Liked Taco bracket competition I ran where readers voted Tacos TJ 664 as the Most Liked Taco. They printed off the bracket, blew it up and displayed it on a wall. As I was waiting for my food, I stood by it and watched many patrons walk by and start talking about the vote. I honestly might spend an entire day just sitting on the bench in front of the bracket and eavesdrop on conversations about it.
It was a brief stop for me but I did manage to fit in a few tacos.
I had the Taco Salceado which was a double tortilla, prime steak, spicy shrimp, cheese, roasted anahein pepper, pineapple, habanero sauce, sliced avocado and bacon. Excuse my language, but holy shit was it delicious! There are supreme pizzas where restaurants load everything on it and then there are supreme tacos. This had a beautiful flavor profile with so much going on.
I also had a shrimp taco. There are many taco options that each do a certain thing well. Some have the best al pastor tacos in town, some offer the best tripas or cabeza. Tacos TJ 664 just might have the best shrimp taco in the city. There were plump pieces of shrimp, pico de gallo, avocado and sour cream piled on to give me the feeling like I was eating a burrito. It required the use of both hands to eat and worth every amount of extra effort.
Tacos TJ 664 is one of those restaurants that get a lot of love. Sometimes that much love can cause certain diners to have high expectations and caught up in the hype. Then there are certain diners who like to hate a restaurant simply because it’s popular and they want to go against the grain.
If you’ve never been, wipe your mind of anything you’ve read or heard. Go in with a clean slate and try it out for yourself.

hands down, the best in wichita, my fav being the spicy shrimp and the prime steak taco with consome, in heaven just thinking about it. WARNING|| can be very addictive.
