Reviewing El Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Haysville, KS

I’ve visited nearly every restaurant in Haysville, KS. To make it 100% there are a couple of places I needed to eat at still and one of those spots was El Azteca Mexican Restaurant. They’ve picked up some momentum on social media thanks in part to their margarita towers that I’ve seen shared all over the place. And because of that, I pushed El Azteca to the top of my list to visit. I reached out to some friends and we made our way to Haysville to check it out.

Once we were all seated, everybody was given complimentary chips and salsa to snack on. We also ordered some queso for the table. Both were pretty standard in terms of starters, but that didn’t prevent everybody from filling themselves up with it. My daughter has been on a big dip kick lately whether its ketchup, salsa, or queso. She thoroughly enjoyed the queso. Unfortunately, it was the runny type of queso so more of it found its way on her clothes than in her mouth.

The sole purpose of our visit was for the margarita towers which were $25.99. They had three different flavors: peach, lime and mango. We all opted for lime. I’m not going to sit here and say they were the best margaritas in town or close to it. But they were some simple margaritas that our table had no problems finishing. It made for a fun talking piece and an excuse to get us adults out together for a meal and drink(s).

Everybody ordered a little something different and I didn’t get opinions on everything. So let’s just focus on my meal. I went with the seafood chimichanga. It was stuffed scallops, shrimp, crab meat and topped with sour cream, nacho cheese and guacamole. I’m not big on chimichangas, but it sounded interesting to try. They were very generous with the amount of seafood stuffed inside. I was a huge fan of the scallops and can’t say I’ve had it mixed with nacho cheese, sour cream and guacamole, but it made for an interesting flavor profile that I didn’t hate at all.

Here’s a look at some other dishes ordered at the table:

Some of my friends who joined us lived in Haysville and shared their thoughts that they preferred El Azteca Mexican Restaurant over the other Mexican restaurants in town. I’ve been to both before. Granted it’s only been once but for the one visit, El Azteca was my vote as well.

The restaurant was very busy during our visit. The staff did their best to keep up and I commend them on that. Apparently, everybody else loves margarita towers as well and had to stop in.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy

  1. I’m sorry to disagree with you. Not impressed with this restaurant food. I do love my Mexican food n I’ve tried it a few times hoping i hit a off day. Nope

  2. We were in El Azteca tonight, and i am thoroughly disappointed; the food was good, but the service was terrible, even thou there were a ton of employees running around the place. i got my meal first ( why they could not bring both at the same time is…..), no silver ware; my son’s meal was brought, no silver ware; we waited ( and waited) for someone to come by, and when he did and asked how everything was i told him it was not good, we could not eat because we had no silverware. there was another lady about the time we were finishing our meal who had gotten here meal and she clasped her hands over her mouth and shouted after the server, “we need silverware, plz”. the bill was presented to us long before we were done and we were never asked if there was anything we would like ( so much for dessert) and once we were done, we had to wait about 20 minutes before the server came by to tell us we could pay at the register, but all i had been waiting for was for a container for the rest of my son’s dinner. will i go back? nope
