Sam’s Southern Eatery Revisited

A restaurant that reopened under new management is Sam’s Southern Eatery. I haven’t been there since they first opened but wanted to revisit them now that they’ve had a year under their belt. The west Wichita restaurant serves catfish, burgers, Po’ Boy sandwiches, gizzards, shrimp, catfish, oysters, salads, chicken strips, and more. Let’s take a look.

I stopped by Sam’s Southern Eatery with some friends who were first-time diners at the restaurant. We decided to get a good array of different items on the menu starting with their wings. The wings came out fairly quickly. I was kind of back and forth on the wings. There wasn’t an abundance of meat on them, and they were overly crispy to the point they may have been fried just a tad bit too long. Some bites were pretty rough and other bites had a decent flavor to them.

For the remainder of our visit, we went with the 3 fish, 3 shrimp and 3 crab cakes meal with the fish and shrimp grilled. We also ordered their 6 shrimp and 6 oyster meal fried. On top of that, we had nearly every single side available on the menu. Here’s a glimpse of most of our order:

The grilled fish and shrimp were big hits at our table. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed those items which had a nice seasoning to them. It wasn’t fishy or anything; just a simple grilled seafood platter that hit the spot. The fried shrimp were bigger than they looked in the picture; there was a light batter to them which kept the focus on the plump pieces of shrimp. I quickly devoured as many pieces of fried shrimp as I could because I couldn’t help myself. The fried oysters, while a little overdone, were still a big hit for us. I remember ordering the fried oysters on my first visit and still loved them this second time around.

We finished nearly everything we ordered aside from the wings. The general impression from our group was very positive. Both friends said they would definitely return in the future. Our server also did a fantastic job throughout our time there.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy

  1. Ate there yesterday. Very good experience. Food was delicious (we had grilled shrimp, fired shrimp, fried fish, red beans and rice and mac and cheese) Service was excellent. We’ll be going back soon.
