For the past two years, I’ve been wanting to visit The Coneburg Grill & Pub. It’s been on my list for some time and I finally made the 40-minute drive northeast of Wichita to Peabody, KS.

The Coneburg Grill & Pub is the main restaurant and hangout for Peabody which is a small town with over 1,000 people. Inside, it had the look of a dive bar that I would love to frequent if it was in Wichita.
While trying to decide what to order, I asked my server what she recommended. She immediately suggested the classic Reuben. That sounded good to me so I went with that and fries.
Not long after ordering, my meal was brought out to my table. Everything was still warm and fresh. I gave it a few minutes to cool down and started in. The fries were some of the best I’ve had in my small-town travels. They were well-seasoned and had a nice greasy coating from the fryer. It was one of those times, you ate a fry and couldn’t stop because they were so good.
The reuben was also a delicious sandwich. The marbled rye bread was toasted to offer the crisp texture that held the sandwich together. There was plenty of corned beef, dressing and especially sauerkraut which some places seem to be scared to pack on. The combination made for a great meal and matched what I want from a reuben.
The service was prompt and friendly and the food was delicious. All making The Coneburg Grill & Pub a worthwhile stop for me on my small-town dining travels.
