Back Alley Pizza in Newton, KS offers artisan-style pizzas that rival what’s in Wichita

One restaurant I’ve had many opportunities to try but kept passing up was Back Alley Pizza. Most times, I was by myself and didn’t want to order a whole pizza to myself. To be honest, I really didn’t know much about them and the style of pizza they served. So, it was a big surprise to me when I first stepped inside and saw they made 10-inch artisan style pizzas like many of the wood and brick oven pizzerias in Wichita.

Upon walking inside, the ordering counter was right in front of you. I immediately asked the person taking my order what the most popular pizzas were. The Graffiti and the Meat were mentioned immediately.

I read over the description for the Graffiti which included BA red sauce, whole milk mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushroom mix, onion, red-green bell pepper, and black olives. The 10-inch pizza was just $8.99 which was a really good deal compared to other similar places.

Soon after, my number was called and I went to go get my pizza.

After the first bite, I instantly was a fan. There were a decent amount of charred flavor on the bottom of the crust to give it a slight delicious smoky flavor. It had a crispy exterior texture but still maintained a doughy interior that was tasty.

The pizza had a great cheese ratio. It wasn’t overly cheesy but had enough to balance well with all the toppings placed over the top. I’m not sure if any sort of seasoning was placed over the top, but something gave each bite a good pop of flavor that lingered seconds after.

I was thoroughly impressed with Back Alley Pizza. Having never been, I didn’t know what to expect but walked out wondering if I should have ordered a second pizza for the drive home.

Back Alley Pizza rivals many of the brick and wood oven pizzerias in town. If you’re a big fan of the artisan-style pizzas, this is one to add to your list. Mark my word, next time I’m in Newton to try a new restaurant, I’m picking up a pizza from Back Alley to go.
