When it comes to hole-in-the-walls and best tacos in town, Taqueria El Fogon is worthy of being in the debate. They have it all from being located on a side street, no major signage unless you count electrical tape on a former Rent-A-Wreck sign, some amazing al pastor, cheap food, cash only, and all the makings of a fantastic hole-in-the-wall dishing out phenomenal street tacos.

On my latest visit to Taqueria El Fogon, I ordered a handful of tacos. I was feeling some lengua and tripas tacos so I ordered some of those and you can’t go to El Fogon without ordering their al pastor.
Their lengua tacos were incredibly tender and flavorful. Lengua can sometimes be almost too tender or rubbery that it turns off some people; but El Fogon’s offered a decent texture that didn’t come off that way. It had a rich meaty flavor that melts in your mouth. Their tripa was cooked to a crisp which I preferred. I like some crunch with my tripas tacos and Fogon nailed it here.
Then there’s the star of the show and what many people in town consider to be the best al pastor in town. There’s many good ones in town and Taqueria El Fogon certainly belongs in the upper echelon of that debate. Their al pastor is cut right off the rotating spit visible from the counter. The meat is thinly cut, very tender and seasoned with red chiles and pineapple. Each bite was magic and had a sweetness to it that left a long-lasting impression.
For any street taco fan or foodie in town, Taqueria El Fogon is one of those must-visits that you have to add to your bucket list if you’ve never been.
