On Thursday, one of the popular specials that brings in quite a crowd to the Kansas Star Casino is the buy one, get one free prime rib deal at Woodfire Grille. The special is only available on Thursdays and you can only get in with a reservation.
If you really want to get in on this deal, I highly recommend you plan well in advance. I had to set my reservation for two weeks out because they were so booked. More importantly though, how was the prime rib? Let’s find out!

The BOGO deal is $25 and gets you and another person a 12oz slow roasted prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus, no substitutions. A shared salad and dessert is also available for $10 more.
If you don’t have anybody to go with, a 24oz prime rib is available for $25 as well.
There were just three of us for this review so I took one for the team and ordered a 24oz prime rib while my friends split the BOGO offer. They did, however, go with the shared salad and dessert.
We were given complimentary bread and butter which was fantastic and a great filler. I tried to avoid eating a lot of it because I had a large prime rib coming my way. My friends noted that the salads were alright but nothing special or memorable; just a basic wedge and Caesar salad.
Soon after, our prime ribs were brought out. We ordered them rare (for me of course), medium rare and medium.
As far as prime ribs go, we all thought this was a little average. It wasn’t horrible but we’ve all had better. The price more than made up for it and we agreed it was a good value if you were willing to make the drive to Mulvane for it. The prime rib just wasn’t as juicy or tender as other places and didn’t have much flavor to it. The au jus helped a little but was very salty. One thing to note was the sides were really good so that was a bright spot. So was the dessert.
Nothing says long-term friendships than three college buddies sharing one cheesecake with three forks.
People love a good special and this is one that certainly fits that criteria for a great bargain. Like I said earlier, if you’re willing to make the drive to Mulvane or want to have an evening at the casino, this is definitely worth checking out. It’s not the best prime rib you’ll have, but it’s an affordable and satisfying enough of one that you don’t feel ripped off. Of course, it’ll help if you win at the casino. Fortunately for one of my buddies, it was well worth the visit. For me, not so much. REMEMBER to plan ahead and make reservations!!!!
Last thing to be noted, the service there was truly phenomenal. That was probably the best part of our entire visit to Woodfire Grill. Our server did a fantastic job.
