Dropping by Hampton’s Restaurant for the veal sandwich

I’ve been told by nearly everybody that if I’m ever in El Dorado, KS, I need to swing by Hampton’s. Before the moment, I stepped inside the restaurant, I had no idea what kind of restaurant the place was. For all I knew, it was going to be a fancy sit down restaurant given its name. I was thinking it would be some super swanky place modeled after the Hamptons in New York. Nope. Hampton’s Restaurant is a small dive type establishment with minimal seating and an assortment of different sandwiches, burgers and other simple American staples.

The place was tiny inside. There was seating for probably 10-12 people. Most diners seemed to be using their drive-thru or getting carryout.

I asked the lady at the counter what I should order and she immediately told me the veal sandwich. She recommended it with chili on top and their signature cabbage relish.

It was a sandwich I’ve never had before; nothing like it. The closest comparison would possibly be a pork tenderloin sandwich, but the patties were much thinner. It was also crispier, but the chili gave the sandwich a softer texture and some added savoriness. Meanwhile, the cabbage relish livened everything up not just in color but flavor. It was unique and quite tasty. The only problem was the chili made for a soggy bun at times, but it wasn’t so much that it ruined the whole meal. I’d 100% order it again.

What I also loved was the friendliness of everyone in the restaurant. It had a very family feel to it where every customer seemed to be a regular which just might have been the case.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
