Enjoying some patio dining at Felipe’s Mexican Restaurant

It was a beautiful evening and we were wanting to enjoy some patio dining. We browsed through our Best Patio List in Wichita and came across Felipe’s Mexican Restaurant. The 119th Street location out west was one that caught our eyes so we hopped in the car and made our way to 119th and Maple.

Their patio faces the northwest corner and overlooks a big pond. It was just the setting we were looking for.

Once we were seated, our server brought us complimentary chips and salsa. Their salsa is pretty addictive.

Our daughter ate her weight in salsa using just ONE CHIP! She also had her weight in salsa on her shirt by the end of dinner.

With it being such a nice evening out, we decided to order a couple drinks. If we didn’t have any of the kids with us, we likely would have went with their signature flaming cazuela. But instead, we opted for a neck deep margarita and a blood orange gin mule; both of which were refreshing beverages.

For our entrees, we went with their:

  • Ceviche: A seafood delicacy prepared Mexican style. Fresh shrimp, tilapia, and crab, marinated in lime juice and served with diced tomato, red onion, and avocado slices. Served in a chilled martini glass. Enjoy with corn tostadas.
  • Pancho Villa: Jumbo flour enchilada, stuffed with beans, ground beef, chile verde, lettuce, and cheese. Topped with salsa ranchera (hot) or chile verde (mild), and melted cheese.

The Pancho Villa was exactly what Megan was looking for. She was desiring a Tex-Mex style meal with loads of beans, beef, and cheese. I opted to do something entirely different with the ceviche. At first glance, the portion size looked small. The martini glass was loaded with ceviche and enough for me to make three tostadas. The shrimp, tilapia and crab had a zesty and fresh flavor that hit my seafood cravings.

The service that evening was perfect. Our server did a fantastic job all night. The food came out promptly and the ambience was exactly what we were looking for.

Our only complaint all evening was trying to figure out if our daughter’s shirt was going to be stained for good. It wasn’t.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
