Family Fun Series: Adult Skate Night at Carousel Skate Center

Carousel Skate Center

Sometimes for family fun, the adults need to get away for a little bit. During the day, it’s a huge family activity center for people of all ages. But every so often in the evenings, Carousel Skate Center hosts an adult skate night that doubles as a fantastic date night for you and your partner.

The Adult Skate Night is for 21+ and takes place the 1st Saturday of every month from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. and on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, which includes skate rental. Complete details can be found on their event page.

Megan and I finally found some time to swing by on a Thursday evening. For her, she’s a pro at skating. Then there’s me, who hasn’t put on a pair of skates in close to 30 years. I contemplated asking for a skate trainer which looks like a walker but opted not to because not a single person was using it.

The vibe inside was great. DJ Carbon was on hand and I’m told is at nearly all the adult skate nights playing music that spans generations. There were adults of all ages inside dancing along to the music. It was an eclectic group of people that were there to have a good time doing some nostalgic skating.

While Megan was skating circles around me, I… was… struggling. I thought skating would be like riding a bike, but that wasn’t the case. It took me a while to get it. My legs, shins and ankles were immediately sore after a few laps. **I know, I’m so out of shape**

Everybody probably shared a few good laughs on my showing, but fortunately, I was there to have a good time. So was everyone else, just at my expense.

DJ Carbon played hip-hop, pop, rock and even some slow music. Thirty years ago, I would have been standing on the sidelines with some buddies watching everybody couples skate. But thirty years later, I finally got my chance to hold hands and skate. 10-year-old Eddy would be so proud of the man I’ve become.

For those curious, they do serve beer and alcohol. All the drinks were reasonably priced. What I loved most about the evening was there were people drinking and having fun. There was no drama, no belligerent drunks, just people skating and having a great time.

Skating was quite the workout for me. Between so many near falls (be happy, I didn’t fall once), my out-of-shape butt skating for the first time in decades and just being tired from earlier in the day, it was quite an eventful evening. But one that was so much fun and brought on many laughs.

In case you get exhausted, the gaming area is open for some classic skee-ball or pop-a-shot.

Definitely, check this one out. If the times are too late in the evening, you can always go skating during the day and take anyone with you.

Carousel Skate Center is located at 312 N West St. To learn more about them or get tickets for adult skate night or any other time, visit their webpage.
