With the ongoing family fun series, I wanted to switch gears for something that’s very affordable for all families. When I say affordable, I really mean free. One of the coolest things to do for families is taking a visit to the Sedgwick County Park to check out the Boundless Playground.

It’s an all-abilities playground.  Everyone can play and participate regardless of physical challenges. It has 350 linear feet of concrete ramps and 13,000 square feet of rubberized wheelchair friendly surfacing. The Boundless Playground was a $3.75 million dollar gift to the community to commemorate Rotary International’s centennial.

In total there’s 1.5 acres of outdoor play space in the heart of Sedgwick County Park with the largest variety of play equipment for toddlers to elementary age children.

Here’s a look at different areas of the playground.

There was a big musical area set up (seen in the picture below). Some kid probably 13-14 years old was playing the Star Spangle Banner on an oversized xylophone and everyone in the park could hear it. That was pretty cool.

This was the first time I’ve seen a swing with a seat for children and one for someone to ride with them. I thought it was a novel idea. As we visited other parks, it seems like everyone has them. But for someone who hadn’t been to a park in probably 30 years, I found it very cool.

There was so much to do at the park and I’m pretty sure our daughter played on every single inch of it. She was running around taking it all in and loving every second of it. One of my favorite parts of the park was how clean they kept everything. Kudos to all those in charge of it.

The Boundless Playground at Sedgwick County Park is Exploration Place is located at 6501 W 21st St.
