For the latest installment in the “Must Try Menu Item” I stopped by The Gilded Cookie. They are a bakery located in the Douglas Design District that offers grab and go treats Wednesday through Saturday. They specialize in hand decorated sugar cookies, brownies and drop cookies.
With the Must Try Menu Item Feature, it’s our job to make at least one worthwhile recommendation. At The Gilded Cookie, one of the best days to stop in is on Friday and Saturdays for their Vietnamese Cinnamon Rolls.
At $13-14 for a 4-pack depending on the type of icing you get, The Gilded Cookie offers some of the best cinnamon rolls we’ve had in a while.
They are made with a specialty Vietnamese cinnamon from the Spice Merchant. It has a much stronger, real cinnamon flavor that allows the cinnamon to be the star of the show. I was told that typical cinnamon found on grocery store shelves have a very weak flavor, making it about the roll or the icing than the cinnamon. The cost is higher but if you’re all about quality and love the taste of cinnamon, this is the roll for you.
The cinnamon rolls were topped with a simple vanilla glaze which we much prefer over the cream cheese icing. After the first bite, what we had was a warm, delicious cinnamon roll that blended all the elements of a perfect roll into one.
There are lots of great cinnamon rolls available in town and The Gilded Cookie is certainly in the conversation as some of the best.
