First Look at Local Flavor Grill and Tapworks

The newest restaurant in Wichita quietly opened over the past week. Local Flavor Grill & Tapworks is now ready to serve diners at 5400 E. Central which is just west of Edgemoor. The restaurant’s menu features a mix of American and Mexican meals ranging from bugers, tacos, tortas, bbq and more. They also feature roughly 15 local beers.

To some people, Local Flavor may be a familiar stop as the owner also owns Broadway Burgers & BBQ.

The restaurant sits in a strip center I’ve never been to despite all my years of living in Wichita. While narrow, it was actually quite spacious inside.

I invited some family to come join me for dinner there and we started off our evening with green chili cheese dip and smokey fried wings. Both were phenomenal especially the wings. The wings had a very crispy exterior but once you bit inside, you were met with juicy succulent chicken underneath. It was quite the combination. My brother went as far to say as it might be the best smoked wings he’s had in town. While I’m a huge sucker for condiments, I have mad respect for wings that don’t rely on being drowned in sauces to taste good. These were excellent.

For dinner, we went with the Local Flavor Torta, the Bacon Jalapeno Burger and Georgia Rueben. I received no complaints from anybody at the table. My father was a huge fan of the burger. He especially loved the pickled jalapeno and jalapeno mayo which took everything to another level. Heat is king in our family and Local Flavor brought it in a good way that allows you to catch some heat while still enjoying your meal. While I would have enjoyed some more dressing in my rueben, it was still quite the flavorful sandwich.

Then there was my daughter who had the mac & cheese. Apparently, playing hide-and-seek with grandpa was more important than eating her food. So, I got nothing to share here. This will be leftovers for the next day.

Local Flavor Grill & Tapworks had been open for less than a week, but I have to hand it to two employees. One was our server and the other was a lady who may have been a manager of some sort. They both had great personalities, were charming and made us feel very welcome. While the food was fantastic for our first visit, the people were a step above that.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
