First Look at 750 Soul

Many fans of their food have been waiting a long time for this. 750 Soul recently opened at 4601 E. 13th Street. People may remember Rachel’s Kitchen that closed in 2018, that space has since been taken over by Wichita Fish Company. After a three-year hiatus, they have now returned under the name of 750 Soul. I dropped by with other local food bloggers, Fert the Foodie and Significantly Spicy to check it out.

Their menu features a selection of popular soul food favorites like wings, catfish, burgers, and more. But I particularly wanted to go on Wednesday because they had neckbones as a special.

I ordered that with one catfish filet. Since I arrived right at opening, they didn’t have all the sides ready to go yet. Because of that, I went with their mac & cheese and cabbage. Otherwise, I would have also ordered greens. The food came out quick which was perfect because of the short time I had for lunch.

While I enjoyed the catfish, it wasn’t all that memorable for me. I would have preferred a little more seasoning or something to give the breading some pop. But fortunately, everything went uphill from there.

The sides were fantastic, particularly the cabbage. Everyone loved it as well. It was simmered in a sauce and mixed in with chunks of sausage to give it some texture. Wow. I’m not sure what else there was to say. It was delicious…. who knew cabbage could taste so good?

As for the neckbones, it stole the show for me.  There was quite a bit of meat on the bones which was a huge plus. There was a rich flavor to it that just yelled soul food. This would be a great meal for any carnivore. I love neckbones and not many places offer them consistently, so it’s nice to have another option in town for it.

Otherwise, it was great to see Rachel’s Kitchen return with their 750 Soul venture. I could definitely see myself stopping by here for lunch during the Shocker basketball season on their Saturday games.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
