Aida Stenholm
There are so many gems hiding in plain sight throughout Wichita. One, I recently learned about is Aida Stenholm. The store is named after the owner, Aida Stenholm, who provides handmade shoes and accessories. Her store is located at 3700 E. Douglas inside Clifton Square, in the former Wichita Room Escape space next door to Dempsey’s Burger Pub.
Stenholm, who attended a shoe making school in Peru, brought her skills to Wichita where she opened her first shop Killasumaq which means “beautiful moon” in Quechua, a native language of Peru. Years later, she moved her store to where it resides now and renamed it.
Upon walking in the store, you’ll see many of Stenholm’s creations. She had shoes, bags, jewelry and other handmade items on display.
One of the big draws of Aida Stenholm is the ability to customize the shoe. The two styles of shoes she primarily customizes are moccasins and driving shoes (seen below) which is similar to a moccasin. Customers can choose the fabric, color, design and more.
One of her hot sellers has been shoes with the Wichita flag on it. Otherwise, she has other items such as a school color or a name on them.
We live in an era where being able to create-your-own or customize anything is big. As consumers, adding a personal touch gives you a feeling of connection to the product you purchase. If shoes are your things or if you’re on the hunt for that gift for a loved one, consider this locally owned store.
Aida Stenholm is located at 3700 E. Douglas. For more information, check them out on Facebook or visit their website. You can also reach them at 316-796-2147.
