I’m no stranger to Margarita’s Cantina. I’ve probably been there hundreds of times over the years listening to bands like Annie Up and Lotus perform, shaking my body and moving it side to side to resemble what humans call dancing, and simply enjoying the fun nightlife scene there. The closest thing I’ve had to a meal there was either leftover chips and salsa or a lime that came with a shot of tequila. So stopping by over lunch time and witnessing what it was like sober from start to finish was a first for me.

My friends and I swung by and started with chili con queso dip and their complimentary chips and salsa. Listen, there was nothing fancy or special about their chips and salsa, but I couldn’t get enough of it. It was runny, but still thick enough to be scoopable, if that’s even a word. There was a bright oniony flavor that kept me coming back for more. I probably could have six bowls of it. Everyone was also big fans of the chili con queso which would probably appease all cheese lovers.
From there, we all had a mix of corn and flour tacos along with enchiladas.
In a way, it was similar to the salsa in the fact that there really was nothing special or memorable about the dishes. It was your basic Tex-Mex offering. My friends enjoyed their enchiladas and I finished my tacos, but it just wasn’t that standout meal that would make us want to return soon for lunch. On the bright side, the portion sizes were fantastic.
I think with the food there, you kind of know what to expect: simple Tex-Mex food. For some people, they are totally into that which is fine and perhaps Margarita’s would be an excellent stop.
