What to expect at Holly Jolly Jurassic Holiday at Field Station: Dinosaurs

One of the more exciting outdoor Christmas lights events around town is Holly Jolly Jurassic Holiday at Field Stations: Dinosaurs in Derby, KS. It’s located at 2999 N Rock Rd in Derby, KS.

The dinosaur exhibit has been decorated and ready for families to come celebrate some classic holiday cheer as they would have 65 million years ago. It features 10 acres of Christmas lights and holiday themed activities. The theme is great for children and all dinosaur lovers of all ages.

I bundled up my daughter and took her to hang out with her cousins and enjoyed the holliest, jolliest Jurassic holiday in town.

There are multiple ways to enjoy the Christmas lights. You can walk by each dinosaur and read the stories at each dinosaur, which we tried to start with, or just browse the paths at your own pace, which we ended up doing once the kids realized they could run rampant.

The kids had such a great time! They loved walking the paths and seeing the T-Rex, Spinosaurus, and the rest of the dinosaurs in their holiday setting. It was the perfect event for the kids as they looked in awe at all the animatronic dinosaurs roaring their way. I’d be lying if I said my daughter was never afraid of it.

There was no doubt what their favorite part was. While there wasn’t snow to sled, Field Station had their own little kid-sized luge set up. I lost count of how many times we went down it. The kids probably said, “again” 475 times, maybe more.

If you’re hungry, they have a concessions area selling gourmet popcorn from The Popcorner, nachos, candy, hot chocolate, cider, coffee and more treats.

There’s even a heated area to sit and enjoy your goodies.

Holly Jolly Jurassic Holiday cost $10 for all ages two and up. The event is free for guests under the age of 2 and current members. Tickets can be purchased there or on their website. Dates and hours for the event are as follows:
