Not all grocery stores were closed over the holiday, one of the ones that stayed open was El Rio Bravo Supermarket located at the southwest corner of Pawnee and Seneca in Westway Plaza. It’s a Kansas City based chain of supermarkets with two locations in town.
Inside both locations is a cocina offering a full line of Mexican dishes ready to eat.

While I was there to do some shopping, I figured why not grab a meal? I went with a meat platter as seen below.
On my last visit, I went with chicken mole that I loved and covered, but the meat platter offered a different experience. While I enjoyed both the rice and chicharron, they were both relatively simple and basic offerings; I’ve certainly had better around town. The grilled meat, however, was overly salty. The food just didn’t resonate well with me on that day which is unfortunate given my last outing.
Since the market is a common stop for us, I’ll have to give them another try next time.
