As someone who’s tried every restaurant and food truck in town, I constantly crave the opportunity to try new places. That requires me to add traveling outside of Wichita to my itinerary. While dining at Wichita places will always be a priority for me, part of this blogging journey has included road trips to small towns in Kansas. It’s given me the opportunity to do combine things I love doing: driving, road trips, trying new restaurants, and visiting different cities.
This past year, I’ve logged quite a few miles visiting places I’ve never been to. I loved every second of it. There were times I’d drive 2-3 hours simply to eat. My travels over the past year took me to Carolyn’s Essenhaus in Arlington, Kristy’s Kafe in Anthony, Coneburg Grill and Pub in Peabody, Noffy’s Sandwich Shop and Ristorante Italiano di Famiglia in McPherson, Hampton’s in El Dorado, Beaumont Hotel in Beaumont, Red Rooster Cafe in Harper, Amy’s Pizza Place in Mulvane, and many more.
I tried to make a list of restaurants I’d like to visit in 2022. Here’s where I intend to drive out to in the new year.
- Kilroy’s Pizza (Sedgwick)
- Öl Stuga (Lindsborg)
- Renaissance Cafe (Assaria)
- Houdini’s Pizza (Kingman)
- The Grill (Mulvane)
- Redz Restaurant (Norwich)
- Flint Hills Market and Bakery (Florence)
- Latham Saloon (Latham)
- Luigi’s Italian Restaurant (Winfield)
- Prairie House Cafe (Leon)
- Getaway Lounge (Garden Plain)
I received so many suggestions; tons that were well beyond an hour. To make the list somewhat manageable and easier to accomplish, I tried to keep those drives around an hour or less. Plus, I’m really just one guy doing all this on the side, so time is always limited, and gas prices aren’t all that cooperative.
Anyway, that’s the list. I’m going to try as hard as I can to make it to all 11 over the course of the new year. I cannot wait and hope you can virtually join me on my journey across small-town Kansas.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
