To live in our household, you need to be a huge lover of all things food. Bonus points if you can extend it to the toys at home too. That’s why when Christmas came, we knew one thing to put on the wish list was Melissa & Doug Wooden Scoop and Serve Ice Cream Counter.
Santa then came in the form of our daughter’s uncle and aunt who came through.
With a two-year-old, she’s at that stage where she loves interactive toys. Things that mimic what older people do. This ice cream play set was perfect for her. It came with a wooden ice cream counter, eight ice cream scoops, six toppings, two cones, cup, scooper, tongs, wooden spoon, a pretend menu and six pretend dollar 1 bills.
The play set replicated the experience of working in one of her favorite dining adventures…. an ice cream shop.
The moment we opened it up, she knew what to do. Each ice cream scoop had a little notch inside that would easily attach to the scooper. At the bottom of each ice cream scoop was a small peg that fit snugly into the cone or cup.
You could then stack multiple scoops on top of each other. My daughter loved bringing me an 8-scoop ice cream cone. Wood made to look like ice cream never tasted so good!
Seeing her eyes light up every time she handed us an ice cream cone made the experience priceless. The toy made for a nice break away from the television to encourage hands-on imaginative play. She was so proud every time she prepared us a cone or cup; I could see her self-confidence and willingness to be generous grow. What’s funny is the next day, we were all sitting on the couch and she walked into the kitchen and grabbed snacks for everyone. It was something she had never done before, and I’m betting it was because of the ice cream play set.
Up next, we may have to get the Top & Bake Wooden Pizza Counter Play Set, Smoothie Maker Play Set, or what I really have my eyes on, the Make-a-Cake Play Set.
