Arby’s ‘Diablo Dare’ sandwich claims to be so spicy, it comes with a free shake

The national fast food chain, Arby’s, is looking to bring the heat in 2022.

For a limited-time, the sandwich chain has launched a new Diablo Dare sandwich that comes with either crispy chicken or a 13-hour smoked brisket. They claim to be the spiciest option in the market…. so spicy they include a free small vanilla shake to cool your mouth between bites.

The sandwich comes with a ghost pepper jack cheese, fiery hot seasoning, fire-roasted jalapeños, and Diablo BBQ sauce on a toasted red chipotle bun. The chicken option costs $5.99 for the sandwich or $8.89 for the combo while the brisket sandwich is $6.49 or $9.39 for the combo.

I went with the brisket combo which also came with a drink and fries. It was roughly $10 and change. This was everything I received.

I went with the brisket option because I’ve had their regular brisket before and it’s not that bad for a fast food chain.

After the first bite, there was a noticeable smoked, sweetness to the brisket; not much heat at first. But with each bite, you could get more of that spice thanks in part to the ghost pepper jack cheese, fiery hot seasoning, fire-roasted jalapeños, and Diablo BBQ sauce; all of which were major efforts to pack on the heat. The seasoning did a good job of ensuring that the heat built up as you kept eating. The diced and roasted jalapenos had an occasional blast of heat that kept tickling the back of my throat. The heat was certainly there, but not so much that I couldn’t stop. Keep in mind, my heat tolerance is a little above average, so others may not be able to take it. But then there will be some who think it’s nothing.

This is a sandwich that will definitely bring on heartburn to some. I could feel it coming on with each bite. The only part of the sandwich I was not fond of was the toasted red chipotle bun. It was dry with a thick bready texture; basically unappetizing. The sandwich would have been better with a basic bun; this added gimmick only made it worse.

I did, however, enjoy the inclusion of the milkshake. It was nice to have it between bites to tone down that heat.

Is it the hottest sandwich I’ve ever had? No. But their claim is the hottest sandwich in the fast food market, and to that, I’d probably agree. I can’t think of any spicier meal I’ve had from any of the national fast food chains.

Like all limited-time promotions, this is simply a gimmick to get your dining dollars. I enjoy these types of outings and am such a sucker for them. If you’re in the same boat as I am, give it a go.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
