Visiting the new Calvin’s Hamburger Haven location in the former NuWay space

After 30+ years of being on south Seneca, Calvin’s Hamburger Haven has made the move a few blocks south to the former NuWay space that closed last year. Staying on Seneca kept them in the same area of town and gave them more space and a pickup window.

I was told the menu essentially stayed the same on the move. Not much was done in terms of renovating the space, at least nothing that entirely changed the whole ambience. It had the same quick-service type of appeal.

Since I was there, I figured I might as well order some lunch. One of their popular items that you don’t see much around town is their peanut butter burger. I went with that and some fries.

The fries were an improvement from my last visit at their old location. While there wasn’t much of a crispiness to them, they were salted well and much tastier than I remember.

And the burger? Talk about a rich, sweet, heavy meal. The bun conformed to the patty, which had a thick layer of peanut butter. The nutty, salty taste of the peanut butter only enhanced the meatiness of the burger. I recommend adding mayo to give it a condiment to counter the peanut butter. It’s not something most people may think to pair together, but this was one I could probably do more of.

This isn’t a burger for everybody, but for those that are open just might love it.

Calvin’s is good for what it is. I wouldn’t put them in my top ten burgers list, but others may. Best advice I can give is to try for yourself to see.

When it comes to the locally owned quick-service style burger spots though, Calvin’s has always been friendly, fast and gets the meals out as you order them.

Here’s their menu:
