In the basement of the Rhatigan Student of the Wichita State University campus is a dining area called Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes. It’s a hang-out area complete with a bowling alley, pool tables, couches, darts, Golden Tee, and plenty of seating. It’s open to the public, so you don’t have to be a student to drop by. Often times, you’ll see it packed before Shocker games as fans drop by to get a beer or bite to eat before walking over to the arena.

Shocker Sports Grill offers burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, wings, pizza and more. They have all the staples any college kid would love, except for ramen noodles.
I figured why not get a pizza one afternoon to check it out. After all, it’s been decades since I had a meal in the basement of the Rhatigan Student Center.
I went with the Wupreme pizza which was their take on a supreme and had sausage, pepperoni, hamburger, green pepper, onions, black olives and mushrooms. There were three size options to choose from, a 7″ personal, 12″ small and 16″ large. I had the small.
The pizza was ready in about 10 minutes. It came out piping hot and smelled wonderful. I liked how there were no shortage of toppings on the pizza. Overall, it was a decent pizza for $12; big enough to feed 2-3 people, depending on the appetite. Some of the pepperoni was a little overcooked, as you can see below. I wasn’t too big a fan of the crust. There’s that nice balance of sturdy, crispy and firmness in a crust and this fell a bit short of that. The cheese and rest of the toppings on the pizza were big wins in my opinion. They did a fantastic job of constructing the pizza.
Regarding quality, it was a good pizza. While it’s not the best way to describe a pizza, that was literally the first adjective that came to mind. It’s not going to win any “best pizza awards”, but for what it is and the convenience of it being in the heart of campus, it’s a decent meal for college students and anybody who stops by the RSC.

Happy Dining,
