A new restaurant has taken over the Las Cazuelas Mexican Restaurant space that closed late last year at 901 E. Harry. Tacos & Gorditas Torres is the latest restaurant to occupy the building at Harry and Washington, which has also been home to El Papa Gallo among other restaurants. Unlike some of its past predecessors, Tacos & Gorditas Torres will only be open until 8 p.m. during the week and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Here’s an idea of what to expect should you go.
901 E Harry St, Wichita, KS 67211

Sunday: 8am – 4pm
The menu at Tacos & Gorditas Torres features burritos, tortas, quesadillas, nachos, burgers, soups, tortillas, seafood, breakfast and many combination platters you may see at similar Mexican restaurants.
I chose to go with tacos and gorditas, given that it’s in their name. My order consisted of a chicharron gordita and a handful of tacos that included buche, lengua, tripas and al pastor.
My meal came with three sauces that were described to me as mild, so-so and hot. The best one in my opinion was the so-so, which had the appearance of a yellow mustard with a flavorful kick of heat in every bite.
I’ve eaten at probably four different restaurants at this location and must admit, Tacos & Gorditas Torres is probably the best of that bunch. The tacos alone were a pleasant delight; there was a nice ratio of meat filling to cilantro and onions. The tortillas did a fantastic job of holding everything together and not drying out the flavors. The tripas were fried to perfection to give it a very crispy texture. The lengua and buche were also delicious and didn’t have a strong, distinct flavor. For example, the lengua didn’t have a big gamey taste that some other places have. In fact, I thought all the tacos were delicious and would certainly return for more.
The gordita was pretty good. I would have liked a more noticeable verde kick to it, but the excellent tacos more than made up for it.
It’s no secret many restaurants have struggled at this location, and perhaps all it takes is some really delicious standout foot to enter through those doors. Here’s to hoping Tacos & Gorditas Torres is it.
