Revisiting Sesame Mediterranean Kitchen in NewMarket Square

Sesame – Mediterranean Kitchen

Almost a year ago, a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant called Sesame – Mediterranean Kitchen opened in NewMarket Square. It was opened by Youssef Youssef who started such restaurants in Wichita like Mediterranean Grill, Le Monde, and Marbella. This time around, Youssef went with a simpler concept for diners looking for a more casual dining experience.

I last stopped by Sesame Mediterranean Kitchen when they first opened, and not everything on the menu was available. This time around, I ordered what wasn’t able to order last time: lamb kababs and lentil soup. There was a big display of dessert staring at me, and I gave in to the temptation and went with the tiramisu.

As advertised, the food came out promptly.

The food was great. I had zero complaints with the soup; it was earthy, not too thick in texture, and light enough to leave plenty of room for the rest of the dishes coming next.

Up next was my big platter of lamb, with hummus, rice and tabouli salad. I’m a huge fan of Sesame’s soft pita bread, which obviously paired perfectly with their creamy hummus. The tabouli was a big improvement from my last visit, offering that acidic blast of flavors I’ve come to enjoy. The lamb, while a little salty, was rich, very meaty, and had a nice contrast of flavors to the hummus and tabouli. It was exactly what the dish needed to complete it.

I should have called it there and left….

…but I had a plate of tiramisu waiting to be devoured. I’ve had A LOT of tiramisu in Wichita. I’d probably put this in the middle of the pack when compared to the other options around town. Tiramisu is something I pretty much always enjoy, but theirs was fairly basic, which isn’t a bad. It’s just, there’s better in Wichita.

I was fortunate enough to be there while Youssef was working and that guy is extremely humble, kind and makes you feel like you’ve just been blessed the moment you are done talking to him. He had no idea who I was, but I made sure to thank him for all the restaurants he’s been a part of in Wichita and for giving our diners more of his food with Sesame.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
