Pizza Hut is looking to bring the heat with their most recent creation. It’s the latest in a long trend of limited-time offerings from restaurants who are hoping to get new customers with spicy foods.
Earlier this year, the national pizza chain unveiled three new Spicy Lover’s Pizzas: Spicy Double Pepperoni, Spicy Hawaiian Chicken, and Spicy Veggie.
Each of the pizzas is made with Fiery Flakes, a.k.a. crushed red pepper flakes and herbs. The Spicy Double Pepperoni pizza is topped with spicy marinara sauce, classic and crispy cupped pepperonis, sliced red chilis and Fiery Flakes. The Spicy Hawaiian Chicken pizza features spicy marinara sauce, chicken, pineapple, sliced red chilis and Fiery Flakes to make for a sweet and spicy pizza. Then the Spicy Veggie pizza features spicy marinara sauce, green bell peppers, red onions, mushrooms, sliced red chilis and Fiery Flakes.
We ordered the Spicy Double Pepperoni Pizza and ironically enough attended a watch party where it was at as well. Of course, the question when we arrived was, “Eddy, are you going to review this?” And of course, the answer was, “Yes.”
Both times, we had the thin n crispy crust, which happens to be my favorite option at Pizza Hut.
After the first few bites, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised, as were the people I was with. Each sliced had a lot going on with plenty of pepperoni, sauce, and red pepper flakes. There was a considerable amount of heat that wasn’t overbearing, but enough to take pause and realize there was a slight itch in the back of your throat.
I’ve had some of these limited-time creations from Pizza Hut like the Detroit-style pizza which, I think, was a fail. But these spicy pizzas were quite the hit with the group of us who gave it a try. I could certainly see myself ordering this again.
