First Look at Happy Plate Food Truck

Who doesn’t love finding new food trucks around town? Thanks to Lisa, owner of Funky Monkey Munchies, for giving me the heads up on Happy Plate. Come to find out, they have been parked in front of F&K Liquor at Lincoln and Woodlawn since late last year. The moment I heard about them, I cleared any dinner plans and stopped by.

The menu featured a mix of hamburgers, catfish, hot dogs, chicken wings, and hot links. We decided to go with a cheeseburger and fries along with a six-piece chicken wing dinner.

Upon arriving home, one recommendation we’d make to the food truck would be to poke holes in the box. He did with the wings and the wings retained its crispiness. The cheeseburger and fries, however, were a little on the soggy side.

For what it’s worth, the burger was still pretty decent. It wasn’t dry, which was great. We added on lettuce, onions, mustard that came with it and some spicy pickles that we had in the fridge, so we did doctor it up a bit.

The wings were much better. They were hand-breaded and had a crispy exterior that kept me coming back for more. Hiding underneath was plenty of juicy chicken to round out the whole experience.

The gentleman working the truck was very engaging and I could tell, he had a big passion for what he did. He was proud of his food and offered samples of specials he had on Sundays, like his chili and chicken noodles. I really enjoyed speaking with him. As I was leaving, he said, please tell all your friends. Little did he know, I’d be telling more people than just my friends.
