One of Wichita’s oldest steakhouses has closed

Outback Steakhouse

In a shocker, the original Wichita Outback Steakhouse location at 2020 N. Rock Road has closed. I was able to confirm with an Outback Steakhouse employee that the east side location is indeed closed.

It was one of Wichita’s longest running steakhouses in town. The Rock Road location opened in 1993. At one point, it was even one of the top-performing locations in the region. I have fond memories of spending family birthdays there, as it was the place we’d go to celebrate as a kid. Those were the rare outings, my parents would splurge on a meal for all of us to commemorate an occasion. There would be hour long waits for a table. It truly was one of Wichita’s busiest restaurants.

Rumor has it that the lease was up, which caused the closure. That now leaves the city with just one location at 233 S. Ridge Road.
