May Restaurant Update: What’s coming and who has closed

I’m a little behind on this update, but I thought I’d take this time to get a brief update on what is still in the works for the future and what has quietly closed down that I have not reported on yet.

Angry Elephant – 111 E 47th St. S.
Things are still being in the works for the Angry Elephant’s second location in the former Burger King space in south Wichita. They are currently hiring for all positions and are aiming for a June 15 date. The new location will have an expanded BBQ menu to include more smoked meats and unique dishes. Installation is underway for their 200-inch projector and 22 big screen TV’s. A liquor license should be ready by the summer, so alcoholic beverages and beer will be available.

Bronx Pizzeria – 2140 W. 21st St.
It’s not all-you-can-eat sushi, but the former Mizu Sushi space is about to get some pizza this summer. I don’t have much information to share on this one, but have heard construction is taking place to renovate the space.

Da Chicken Shak & More – 1112 W. 13th St.
Nothing new to add here outside the update we shared earlier this week. Look for a late May to mid-June opening for this one.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop – 10728 W 21st St
No real update to provide here. Construction and delays, I’m told, have caused some slowness but that’s the case with any new restaurant. So practice patience. Fuzzy’s is still on the way for the latter half of 2022.

Itzcali Tacos and Tequila – 2819 E. Central
I actually ran into the owner of this one last summer, who gave me a heads-up. Big things are in store for the new restaurant that will specialize in tapas, tacos and what could very well be the largest selection of tequila in any restaurant in Wichita. Be on the lookout for a fall opening.

Paris Baguette – 21st & Webb
The French-inspired pastry and bake shop is now under construction and should be open by the time school is back in session this fall. They will be located just east of Andy’s Frozen Custard.

Red Robin – 7355 W. Taft
Located in the former Fisher Lumber Co. space, construction is nearing completion and the burger chain is now in the hiring process. They are currently aiming for a June opening.

Sunflour Cafe & Collective – 6120 W. Central
If you love the COOP in Derby, this little new shop will bring similar concepts to Wichita. On top of the many vendors who will sell their products at Sunflour Cafe & Collective, there will be a big focus on vegetarians and vegans options. At this moment, they are aiming to be open the first week of June.

Ziggi’s Coffee – 4575 N. Maize Road
This could be a confusing one for longtime Wichita foodies. Ziggi’s Coffee, not to be confused with Ziggy’s Pizza, is a coffee drive-thru chain based out of Colorado. The standalone coffee shop similar to a Scooters is expected to open at the end of this year or early 2023.

Better Yet Coffee – 2721 E. Central
In a surprise move, Better Yet Coffee (a.k.a. Little Lion Cafe will celebrate their last day on May 29.

Cana Wine & Cocktails – 223 S Broadway
The cocktail bar in downtown Wichita quietly closed down this spring. You’ll be able to find some of their stemware at the future GROW plant shop opening in the Fidelity building this summer.

P&C Bar – 718 E Pawnee St
Signage is down and phone lines have been disconnected in the small bar located a few blocks south of Broadway on E Pawnee.

Sam’s Southern Eatery – 6600 W. Central
It’s been a tough road for Sam’s Southern Eatery who dealt with the pandemic and ownership changes. The restaurant closed last month.

Taqueria Las Tres Nenas – 6600 W. Central
Also located in the same building as Sam’s Southern Eatery, Taqueria Las Tres Nenas’ lease was up and due to slow business decided not to renew this spring.
