Our experience at the first ever ICT Drone Light Show at Exploration Place

ICT Drone Light Show

ICT Drone Light Show

The city’s first ever ICT Drone Light Show took place over the weekend at Exploration Place.

The show consisted of 200 synchronized drones choreographed to music. It was handled by Firefly Drone Shows, who did the coordination of the entire program. The computer-controlled drones flew 400 feet in the air by the Keeper for attendees to see.

While many people could watch the event for free, tickets were sold for the show. Tickets gave people the opportunity to check out food trucks on site, many of whom sold out, live music, and help cover the cost of the drone show which was pretty much a breakeven event with sponsors. It definitely wasn’t cheap to have here.

Leading up to the show, I had too many drinks at an event and bought raffle tickets for a chance to watch the drones from a boat on the Arkansas River. Well, we ended up winning tickets and got a really cool view. Big thanks to the Wichita Wagonmasters who handled the boat tour.

We attended the Sunday night event and due to the coming storm, they had to push the event up by an hour. Exploration Place wasn’t about to let Mother Nature rain on the party.

While it wasn’t completely dark, it was still such a cool show to see. I can’t even fathom the amount of work it took to get all 200 drones coordinated. Here are some snapshots.

I’m all for unique and different experiences in Wichita, and the Drone Light Show provided that. Hundreds of people packed the river banks to watch the show. It was cool to hear all the oohs and aahs from the river.

Here’s our video look of the night:

@wichitabyeb @explorationplace hosted the first ICT Drone Light Show. We won a raffle drawing and got to watch it from a boat on the river. Thanks to the Wichita Wagonmasters who led the little tour.
