We are halfway through 2022. In case you missed it, there have been many new options for dining in Wichita. Of course, that comes to no surprise to anybody who has lived here for a while. There are constantly new places to eat in town. But with so many of them, you may have not known about some of Wichita’s newest restaurants.
The first part of the year was a busy one in the dining scene, with nearly 40 new dining options. That’s a lot to choose from and could be overwhelming when wanting to find something new to try.
I’m here for you. I’ve personally stepped foot into every new place, ate the food, and I am narrowing that down to twenty-one that could be worth a shot.
Doma – 7703 E. Douglas
The small plates restaurant had one of the hottest starts in Wichita, and quickly jumped on my list of personal favorite places to eat. Between a creative cocktail menu and an assortment of delicious small plates to choose from, this is definitely one of the best places to go for date night or with groups of people.
First Mile Kitchen – 2141 N. Bradley Fair Pkwy
If you’re big in to locally sourced ingredients. Dishes made from Kansas grown and raised products, and good food, you will absolutely want to add First Mile Kitchen to the list. It’s simple dishes with a special touch that you can have for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Mokas Cafe – 143 N. McLean
This new cafe based out of Salina, KS is located right by the Advanced Learning Center. Aside from getting caffeinated, be sure to check out their breakfast and lunch items.
Station 8 BBQ – 1100 E. 3rd Street
BBQ at its best. This new BBQ restaurant has sold out of food on many occasions, and for good reason. Between their Q and homemade sides, there’s literally something on the menu for all the carnivores out there.
Hook & Reel – 353 S. Rock Road
Cajun seafood restaurants are a very polarizing topic in town. But if seafood boils are your thing, this is certainly worth a try to see for yourself. I heard they also have a fantastic deal for birthdays…
FioRito Ristorante – 3134 E. Douglas
Freshly made pasta and a contemporary take on Italian dishes, FioRito puts more concern on whether the food tastes good than what’s considered authentic, which is such a buzz word. Furthermore, probably one of my new favorite spots in town.
Feng Cha – 8007 E. Kellogg Dr.
When it comes to all the new boba spots opening around Wichita, probably nobody had more anticipation and excitement than Feng Cha.
Tacos & Gorditas Torres – 901 E Harry
Taco places are always opening up, but one to consider is located at 901 E. Harry, in an area of town that deserves more love. Grab a taco, grab a gordita, grab both.
The Nelson’s Kitchen – 6829 E. Kellogg Dr.
Looking for some good ol’ soul food? Whether it’s wings, catfish, porkchops, or even Kool-Aid, The Nelson’s Kitchen has got you covered.
Shea’s Sol Kitchen – 4600 W. Kellogg Dr.
Calling all vegans or people who just like delicious food, add Shea’s Sol Kitchen to your list. They offer something you don’t see much around town, Vegan comfort food.
M.K.M. Authentic Thai Cuisine – Food Truck
One of my new favorite food trucks of the year. Only problem is, I haven’t been able to find a good way to see where they’ll be at. This truck offers Thai cuisine that’s tasty and flavorful. I really hope they add some social media pages or a website soon.
Tamales & Monchis GTO – 1920 W. 21st St.
Tamales pretty much every day of the year? Sign me up! No longer do you have to wait until the holidays to get your hands on some tamales. This new restaurant sells them and better yet, has all kinds of different options including dessert ones.
Magnolia Cafe – 2424 N Woodlawn
This new restaurant offers Southern-inspired breakfast and lunch fare. If you stop by, be sure to have an appetite and save some time to take a nap later.
Big Arbor – 4311 W. Central
West Central has itself a new restaurant and venue space. If you stop by, do yourself a favor and order one of their specialty burgers.
China Town – 327 N. Hillside
Quick-service Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen in town, but China Town tries their best to be in the upper echelon of that category.
Cody’s Meet & Greet – 2224 S. Oliver
Located in the former Sonic space on south Oliver, Cody’s Meet & Greet has an ever-changing menu with different specials running all the time.
El Puerto – 808 W. 25th Street
This latest Mexican restaurant specializes in chicken meals and seafood dishes. It’s located in one of the highest profile intersections for quality Mexican restaurants, so you know they’re working hard to keep up.
Busy B’s Lunch Delivery – Food Truck
One food truck you’ll find at many events and rallies around town is Busy B’s. They offer an assortment of cool dishes like chicken crack, empanadas, smoked sausages, smackin mac n cheese and more.
SmokeHouse ICT – 2800 E. Central
It’s always cool to see one of Wichita’s local food trucks graduate to a brick & mortar space. The most recent one to do it is SmokeHouse ICT. To make it this far is a testament to their Texas-style BBQ.
Aroma Coffee House – 7348 W. 21st Street
If you love visiting different coffee shops all throughout town, one of the newest ones to open in Wichita is Aroma Coffee House at 7348 W. 21st Street.
Sbarro – 514 S. Oliver
And for all the new restaurants in town, I’d be remiss to leave out the return of Sbarro to the Wichita market.
