A new restaurant has opened in the space that has once held other Mexican spots like Birrieria la nieta de villa, Tacos Porfias, Taco Loco, and most recently Tacos Y Burritos La Guera. Carnitas San Juan is the latest restaurant to take over the building. They celebrated their grand opening over the weekend and we stopped by to check it out.

The menu at Carnitas San Juan featured tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas, and platters of carnitas. I went with six tacos consisting of buche, al pastor and carnitas. I was so hungry that I was two buche tacos in before I realized there was no picture taken. So forgive me for this shot of just four tacos.
No lie, the carnitas tacos were very tasty. I loved how it was chopped up and there were pieces of pork skin mixed in. It gave the tacos some nice texture. The al pastor tacos had a smoky yet salty and sweet kick in each bite. The meat was quite tender as well. As for the buche, they were probably my least favorite of the three, as I found them to be a bit gummy in texture. But all in all, it was a solid lunch.
So solid that I messaged my family to see if they wanted any. I picked up some al pastor tacos and a platter of carnitas for the rest of them. They all wanted al pastor tacos and loved it. So much, the kids started asking where it was from. That’s a rarity because they usually just eat and move on with their lives. Sounded to me like, they were prepping to ask for more tacos from Carnitas San Juan in the future. And the platter of carnitas was also a solid choice, as we all just started picking carnitas up from the platter with no utensils or tortillas.
For a place called Carnitas San Juan, it only made sense that their carnitas would be fantastic.
As mentioned earlier, it was a very solid meal. I definitely wish them the best of luck as the building has seen many restaurants come and go. Hopefully, this one will stay.
