Sometimes the best hidden gems in Wichita can be found inside places like convenience stores or gas stations. I was given a heads up about KS Smoke Shop & Grocery at 5701 E. Lincoln St. Their menu had such dishes as gyros, shawarmas, burgers, wings, catfish and more.

I stopped by the convenience store and there was an area near the back wall to place your orders. I went with the combo meal which included 2 catfish and 4 wings along with a gyro with lamb.
They quoted it as taking 20 minutes, and that was about how long it took.
The video included at the end of this blog can give you some better visuals. But if you prefer reading, the food was rather underwhelming. The wings were very dry and bland, the catfish was paper thin and mostly breading, and the gyro may have been the worst one I’ve ever had. There’s a tenderness to lamb and this was hard, dried out and a gyro I didn’t bother finishing.
I tried my hardest to find something positive about my visit. It was probably the gentleman running the convenience store; he was a nice guy who engaged well with every single customer. The person handling the cooking seemed to be struggling in the back. On the bright side, I had a lottery ticket win me a total of $2.
