What is there to be said about Grandma Thuy’s that hasn’t already been said?
It’s been one of my favorite locally owned businesses, even back before they started a restaurant. The little Vietnamese takeout place has been popular since they opened. If you drop by, their phone line is always going off, carryout orders never end, and items like their wings are known to sell out. And this is all with a short staff, but that should be no surprise to anybody who’s seen what’s going on in the industry.

When I say should be no surprise to anybody, there’s still a group of people who still will be shocked. With Grandma Thuy’s short staff of constant string of customers come in, there will be times they are unable to answer the phone or the line is busy for hours on end.
But is that enough to warrant a one-star review? That’s exactly what happened recently to Grandma Thuy’s when one person tried to call. Because no one answered the phone, they left a measly one-star report on their Google business listing.
I’m here to leave a five-star review and encourage others to do so.
Earlier this week, I dropped by to order their limited-time special, rice noodles with pork. They sold out of wings, so I compromised and went with egg rolls, fried rice and lo mein. My family thought that sounded like a great compromise!
Seriously, they put out some of the best food.
I highly encourage everyone to try the rice noodles at least once. It’s not as popular as the egg rolls, wings or other dishes because it has less of a footprint in Wichita, but it’s quite possibly better than most of the other dishes ordered. It’s lighter, and doesn’t leave you feeling so bloated. Plus, there are vegetables in it, which makes it healthy and could add 5 years on to your lifespan. Don’t quote me on that, though.
In the off chance, you don’t like rice noodles, everything else is still worthwhile.
There’s literally something there that everyone will like. Plus, the owner is incredibly nice. If you’ve ever met her, I don’t think you could ever warrant leaving a one-star review or even a two or three.
And if you aren’t able to get through on a phone call, just drop by. Grandma Thuy’s does a great job of letting customers know if they’ll be closed via their Facebook page. A little wait won’t hurt you, and a busy phone line or unanswered call isn’t the end of the world.
