If you’re driving west on Kellogg, no longer will you see the eyesore that used to be the abandoned K-Mart building that has been closed for over five years. After lots of hard work and renovations, the 105,000-square-foot space has been transformed into the Wichita Furniture & Mattress Superstore. The new furniture store, at 4200 W. Kellogg, is nearly double the size of the first location at 13th and Oliver.
The new look has brought a revitalized feel to the area, and that’s just the outside. Those old enough to remember the former K-Mart will be shocked to see the inside.
Walking inside, it’s incredible how the interior looked. I have many memories of shopping at the K-Mart and can only imagine how much work was put in. With over 100,000 square feet to work with, they had something in there for everyone’s furniture needs. We actually purchased lots of furniture at their other store late last year after we moved. But I’m told, there’s still more furniture needed, so this was the perfect time for us to go in with summer approaching.
Big green signs to match the exterior hung from the ceilings to let shoppers know where they could find what they were looking for. They had sections for dining room, sectionals, outdoor living, area rugs, home theater, kids, and more. Here’s a look inside.
We spent a lot of time in the baby & kids area because our daughter made it known she wanted a new bed and that her birthday was around the corner. EVEN THOUGH, she got a new bed last October.
I was in the market for a new recliner for my office. There were a few favorites I had, so it was a matter of nailing that down and going back in to make the purchase
And Megan spent most of her time in the outdoor furniture area. We are redoing the backyard patio and this will be our first major purchase of the year. They had some wicker options we loved and will 100% be going back in the coming weeks to make our purchase.
We were told, much of what they had on the floor was in stock. That was great because the last time we purchased furniture, there was a 2-3 month lead time.
If you had asked me a couple of years ago about furniture shopping, I would have rolled my eyes. Our experience at Wichita Furniture last year was great. We re-did our dining room, a couple of bedrooms and a living room. I love what we purchased and the team at Wichita Furniture was helpful in the whole process. The free shipping at the time was fantastic as well. Now with the next stage of furniture buying with our patio and office space, we’ll be going back.
We attended the ribbon cutting last week, and one thing I’ll always respect and love are businesses who give back to our community. They made significant donations to His Helping Hands, Wichita Children’s Home and Wichita Union Rescue.
As for my daughter, she may have to wait a few more birthdays until she gets a new bed.
Check it out. The Wichita Furniture & Mattress Superstore is located at 4200 W. Kellogg and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
