Let’s review Culver’s!
The fast-food chain not found in Wichita specializes in frozen custard & signature burgers made with Midwest beef & dairy.
Culver’s was founded in 1984 with the very first location in the owner’s hometown of Sauk City, Wisconsin. Two of the biggest items on the menu back in the 80s were the ButterBurgers and frozen custard, both of which still remain on the menu to this day. Primarily found in the Midwest, the chain now has a total of roughly 900 restaurants in 26 states.
Eight locations can be found in Kansas, with essentially all of them in the northeastern part of the state in cities like Overland Park, Olathe, Kansas City, and Lenexa. For this review, we stopped by the Olathe store.
For a fast food restaurant, the menu at Culver’s was pretty big. There were burgers, chicken, sandwiches, fish, shrimp, frozen custard and more.
I went with a ButterBurger. If you’re unfamiliar with one, it’s a hamburger topped with butter, either directly on the patty, or on the bun. For my side, I had fries and then ordered two pieces of chicken.
Culver’s also carries their own root beer, which I had to try. It was good, but I’d still give the edge to NuWay on flavor.
The chicken tenders were about as good as you could get from a fast food chain. They were tender as the name implies they should with breading that gave it the texture of a large chicken nugget.
As far as the main entree went, I was a fan. It was a good little burger that satisfied my appetite. The patties weren’t thick, but they were still juicy. I’m still trying to decide whether I’d put this in my upper echelon of fast food burger chains, but my first visit was definitely a good one. Since I have to return to Kansas City soon, I’ll likely check them out again.
What may be the best part about Culver’s was the customer service. I’ve never seen so many enthusiastic, happy people inside a fast food chain in the middle of the day. Keep in mind, the restaurant was still busy. At least 5–6 employees greeted me, thanked me for coming in, or just wished me a good day at multiple times during my visit. It felt like I was on a recruitment visit.

Happy Dining,
