A celebration each September of all things garlic, brought to you by the owners of Orie’s Farm Fresh Enjoy walking the brick-lined streets of Wichita’s historic Old Town district while taking in the aroma of the city’s best garlicky fare. It’s here you’ll find dozens of local vendor businesses, including farms, ranches, food artisans and handmade artists, as well as garlicky products galore and our popular complimentary garlic shots.

■ KAM’s Paranormal Investigation | September 8-9
 Kansas Aviation Museum
Come take a 90 minute investigation of the paranormal at KAM. There are 30 slots available at 7:00 or 9:00 on both Friday and Saturday! You’ll get your own investigative tools, and explore each of the 3 floors here at the museum. It will be a great evening of fun and scare

The Water Lantern Festival is a floating lantern event that is all about connections. Magical nights in cities across the U.S. include food, games, activities, vendors, music and the beauty of thousands of lanterns adorned with letters of love, hope and dreams reflected upon the water. As the sun begins to set on the evening sky, the Water Lantern Festival begins to shine with the launch of the lanterns onto the water as we Light The Water together. Join in on a free, fun and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it’s up to you! Exploration Place parkruns are fun, free events organized by volunteers for the benefit of everyone. Join us on Festival Plaza (park at Exploration Place and then follow the signs). The path goes along the river, over the Keeper bridge and back to the museum. We highly encourage all levels of walkers and runners. parkrun is for everyone!!

See up to 40 beautiful cat breeds. This is a family-friendly event that is fun for all ages! Watch cats and kittens compete for Best in Show IN EACH of the 7 separate JUDGING RINGS on both Saturday and Sunday (each are its own show)! Free cat coloring books for the first 200 children, daily! Cat costume contest around lunchtime Saturday and Sunday! See fancy cats dress up! The contest is for cats that are entered in the show. Meet the friendly feline petting crew – throughout the show hall. Many of our exhibitors will be happy to share their beloved felines to pet, plus share breed and history. A times they may be busy getting the cat ready to show.

Augusta Municipal Airport
A local auto show open to all makes and models. Event is located at the Augusta Municipal Airport and will feature cars and vendors selling food and merchandise.

■ Miss Wichita 2024 Competition | September 9
Where: Wichita State University
Join us for the 2024 Miss Wichita Competition, the local preliminary to Miss Kansas, for an afternoon of poise, intelligence, beauty, and grace. Women will compete for the honor of representing the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County at the 2024 Miss Kansas Competition. Women will compete in the following categories on stage: on-stage conversation, fitness, talent, and evening wear, and will have a private off-stage interview. Women are competing for more than a job, but scholarship dollars and the platform to advocate for a social cause are near to their hearts.

■ 3rd Annual Suspenders4Hope 5K Run & Memorial 1 Mile Walk | September 10
Where: Steve Clark YMCA
Join us for the 3rd Annual Suspenders4Hope 5k and 1 Mile walk to benefit StopSuicideICT, presented by Ascension Via Christi and the Steve Clark YMCA. Registration and check-in begin at 8:30 am with the 5k starting at 9 am. The race is an official, certified course on the beautiful Wichita State University Campus and will begin in the Steve Clark YMCA parking lot. Following the race, several speakers and awards will be given. The event will conclude with a 1 Mile Memorial Walk in honor of those who lost their lives to suicide. All registrants for the run and walk will receive a race t-shirt.
