First Look at The Mango Tree; a new Indian restaurant in southwest Wichita

Mango Tree

It’s slim pickings for Indian restaurants if you are outside east Wichita. Good news, a new chain has arrived in southwest Wichita called, The Mango Tree Indian Kitchen + Tap House.

111 E. 47th St. S, Wichita, KS 67216

Open Daily: 11am – 10pm

Cash/Card Accepted

Located in the former Angry Elephant south space at 111 E. 47th St. South, The Mango Tree opened to the public on Monday. Much of the interior of the Angry Elephant was kept the same regarding the layout, bar, and televisions inside the building.

During my lunch stop, I asked for suggestions on what to get. My server recommended various curry bowls. The one that caught my eye was the mango, which was yellow curry with a splash of mango and a choice of protein. I opted for the lamb, which was a $2 upcharge. Every bowl on the Mango Tree’s menu is served with 8 ounces of basmati rice and plain naan.

The interesting thing about Indian food, for me at least, is how deceiving it can be. When you get your dish, sometimes the first impression is, “that’s not much food.” But as you progress through it, that all changes and the next thing you know, you’re full.

I loved this take on curry, mango was something I haven’t had before. There was an addictive sweet aftertaste with the slightest touch of heat in each bite that kept me coming back for more. The sauce was so good, I caught myself dipping the naan into it. The lamb was extremely tender and was like the cherry on top for the meal.

Mango Tree

The Mango Tree has quite the menu with lots to choose from. I’m so happy I decided right for my first time and am excited to return. This restaurant is an excellent get for southwest Wichita and even the nearby cities of Haysville and Derby, who could use more variety of restaurants.

Lastly, I stopped by on their grand opening day. The flow of traffic was steady, and the service was fantastic; not bad for day one.
