There’s a convenience store near the corner of 17th and Hillside called University Mart that you may want to add to your list of restaurants to visit soon.
University Mart, located at 3223 E. 17th St. N. in the same strip as Kirby’s Beer Store, offers a meal deal that will catch the eyes of many. $4.99 for a gyro wrap and drink or $6.99 for a kabab wrap and drink.

These days, there aren’t too many meals to be had for under $5, and this is one of them; a convenient option, especially for students at the nearby Wichita State University.
I stopped by over the weekend to check it out and walked away feeling like I just had one of the best deals in the city.
My meal came with a free drink, and not just the cheap off-brand drinks, but name brands like Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and Dr. Pepper! I settled for an A&W cream soda.
This is what $4.99 got me. My gyro came with a lamb/beef mix. The owner told me he was working on adding a chicken option in the future.
As he was making my gyro, he asked if I wanted to include jalapeños and there was no hesitation for me to say yes, despite doctor’s orders.
This was fantastic, a great portion size for $5, and filled me up. What more could I ask for?
I was told, more items would be added to the menu and he hoped the lower cost would bring in many students looking for affordable meals and basically, anyone wanting delicious food.
