Get ready to be wowed as the creative minds of Wichita’s North High School art students come together in a groundbreaking collaboration with acclaimed artist Barbara Earl Thomas. This extraordinary partnership will unfold within the captivating exhibition “Barbara Earl Thomas: The Illuminated Body” at Wichita Art Museum.
The students and their art teacher, Olivia Orozco, will be on site at the Museum on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Witness their artistic prowess as they meticulously hand-cut life-size screens alongside Barbara Earl Thomas herself, creating an installation titled “The Transformation Room.” This immersive experience within “The Illuminated Body” exhibition will transport viewers to a realm of radiant contemplation, reminiscent of a medieval chapel.
We invite members of the press to join us for this momentous occasion as young people explore artistic expressions that transcend boundaries.
Starting Sunday, October 8, 2023, visitors will have the opportunity of witnessing the students’ awe-inspiring creations. Prepare to be captivated by the raw emotions, vibrant colors, and imaginative storytelling that emanate from their original artworks.
The “Barbara Earl Thomas: The Illuminated Body” exhibition will run from October 8, 2023, to January 14, 2024 in the Louise and S.O. Beren Gallery at WAM located at 1400 West Museum Boulevard, Wichita, Kansas.
