One of Wichita’s hottest new spots can be found at the southwest corner of 21st and Jackson, next door to Rosie’s Hair Fashions at 511 W. 21st St. in the north part of town. I tried La Jarochita one time and instantly fell in love, and here’s why.

The taco stand gives diners the experience to try tacos and other dishes as if they were served in the streets of Mexico. I saw a gigantic pot of consommé with big lamb bones getting tossed in. Everything was prepared right in front of you, including the tortillas.
When I stopped by La Jarochita, they had carnitas, barbacoa, and lamb as well as al pastor spinning on a spit. It looked great, smelled great and best of all, tasted great.
When you arrive at La Jarochita, you get in line and then place your order. There wasn’t a menu on hand, so I just asked for tacos and they asked how many. I went with three tacos, which were $4.50 a piece. They handed me a Styrofoam container.
I took the container over to the gentleman at the grill, and he asked how many tacos I ordered and prepared my tacos.
La Jarochita was also giving out complimentary cups of consommé which was like chicken soup for the soul. It was warm and delicious. But even more delicious were the tacos. They were bigger than they appear in the pictures. One tortilla was about the length of the container and stuffed with as much meat as possible.
I had the carnitas and al pastor. The flavor was indescribably good. I couldn’t believe what I was eating.
It was so good, I got back in line to order a round of seconds; this time I included buche.
I’m not sure how it was possible, but the staff was even better. Friendly, energetic and gracious about every patron who stopped by.
I’m not sure if magical is the right word to use to explain the experience, but I’m running with it.
La Jarochita was truly magical from start to finish.
