Let’s Revisit Long John Silver’s!

Let’s revisit Long John Silver’s!

The most popular seafood fast food chain was founded in 1969 in Lexington, KY. With over 1,000 worldwide locations, four of them are located in the Wichita area, with two of them being a half LJS/half A&W store.

Long John Silver’s is a very popular destination during Lent. Is it true that the 40 days of Lent keeps Long John Silver’s in business? I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure my family has ordered enough food there to pay at least one manager’s salary.

It’s one of the chains I crave every 4 months. Why? It’s because of how I feel after eating LJS. I’ll explain more in a bit.

For the purposes of this review, we swung over to the store at 2616 N Maize Rd, which is also an A&W. It’s a nice addition because then I can get some A&W root beer.

I went with the #10 platter which was 2 fish, 6 shrimp and two sides. My side choices were coleslaw and green beans.

Long John Silver's

The coleslaw at Long John Silver’s is very reminiscent of pre-made containers you can find at grocery stores. It’s not overly saucy. While not amazing, it’s fairly simple and decent for fast food. It’s one of the few places I’ll order coleslaw from; perhaps it’s because of nostalgia?

My other side is always green beans. Hear me out for a second, green beans at Long John Silver’s are underrated. I’m sure it’s out of a can, but there’s just something about it that keeps me coming back.

The hush puppies? Not my thing. I’m not a huge fan of hush puppies in general, so usually pass them on to someone else.

Then there’s the star of Long John Silver’s, the fish and shrimp. The breading offers quite a bit of crunch; some people may not like it, but I love it. And the fish and shrimp are satisfying enough that it keeps me coming back every few months. It’s all greasy, but in a way that you don’t mind…

….until after you’re done eating. Long John Silver’s is like a long night of excessive drinking. You go into it fully knowing what’s about to happen. It’s not the best idea, but as you start, you love it. Then, once you’re finished, it hits you… you’re going to feel like crap later on. Was it worth it? Who cares because that’s living. And every so often, that living requires you to be in the restroom soon after.

Long John Silver’s like many fast food restaurants, isn’t for everybody. And with them being a fast food seafood chain, they are probably for even fewer people. But to this day, I’ll still engage with some LJS occasionally with no regrets, minus the hour or so my stomach feels like crap.

So, with that said, are you YAY or NAY on Long John Silver’s?

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
