First Look at Shawarma UR’s Food Truck

Shawarma UR's

This fall, Shawarma UR’s, who closed their brick & mortar location earlier this year, launched their food truck.

Their restaurant, which used to offer a build your own shawarma style menu, transferred everything over to the food truck and took their show on the road.

They were out at a bank parking lot in northwest Wichita one evening, and I canceled all plans to stop by to visit the Shawarma UR’s. I always had good luck with their restaurant and have been excited to try their truck.

The menu at Shawarma UR’s is simple. It’s $9 for a regular bowl or wrap, or $12 for a large bowl.

You start off by picking a vessel, aka a pita wrap, tortilla wrap, rice bowl, poutine bowl, Fattoush bowl or hummus bowl.

Then you choose the protein: beef, chicken, or falafel. After that, you can go crazy with the toppings like lettuce, pickled turnips, pickles, spicy red cabbage, French fries, tabouli, all at no additional cost.

I went with one of their bowls with beef along with two sides at an upcharge because I rarely can stick with just one.

The bowls have always been one of my favorite dishes at Shawarma UR’s, and I was glad to have it again at the truck. It was a healthy heaping bowl that didn’t leave me hungry afterwords. I would put the hummus at about an average rating, it wasn’t bad but also nothing all too memorable.

But the fries…. holy moly! They were nice and crispy and came with some sort of spicy garlic sauce that came highly recommended to me. It had a sharp spicy kick, but it was not so much heat that I couldn’t take it anymore. More so, the type of spice you wanted more of and could easily take.

All in all, this was a worthwhile visit and something different in the food truck scene that I could get down on anytime they are around. If you loved Shawarma Ur’s restaurant, you’ll certainly enjoy the food truck.
