Winter Wonderland is a free event brought to you by Wichita Park & Recreation, designed to bring holiday cheer to the entire community. Roast s’mores by our cozy fire pits, visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, and be on the lookout for that mischievous Grinch who might be up to some tricks! Sip on hot cocoa as you listen to timeless holiday melodies, capturing the essence of this joyous season. Create lasting memories at our festive photo booth. Strike a pose with your loved ones or let our team capture your picture-perfect moment against a backdrop of holiday cheer. Don’t forget to write and send a letter to the North Pole!

Share your wishes and dreams with Santa, who eagerly awaits your messages. No Winter Wonderland experience is complete without indulging in delicious candy canes, and cookies. Let their sugary sweetness add an extra touch of delight to your festive adventure! Mayor Whipple will flip the switch to light the Mayor’s Tree at 5pm sharp. We can’t wait to see you there!

Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Ghosts of Christmas Eve | Dec. 6
Where: Intrust Bank Arena
This year’s tour promises a new and larger presentation of the beloved holiday tradition, “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” which has captured the hearts of multiple generations. A product of the imagination of TSO’s late founder Paul O’Neill, and based on TSO’s multi-platinum CD and TV special, “The Ghosts of Christmas Eve,” follows the journey of a runaway who breaks into an abandoned vaudeville theater on December 24th. While seeking shelter from the cold, the teen is discovered by the theater’s caretaker who uses the ghosts and spirits from the building’s past to turn her life around. Following the performance of the rock opera, 2023’s tour also boasts a rocking, blazing, and laser-lit second set containing more of TSO’s greatest hits, fan-favorites, and surprises.

Wild Lights | Dec. 6-10
Where: Sedgwick County Zoo
Wild Lights is back with ALL NEW light displays and this year’s theme will leave you smiling like the Cheshire Cat. Wichita’s most unique fall event will return with larger-than-life Asian Lantern sculptures illuminating the Zoo with dazzling scenes of glowing wildlife, beautiful scenery, and Alice in Wonderland themed displays.

■ 1 Million Cups | Dec. 6
Where: Groover Labs
1 Million Cups is a free, weekly national program designed to educate, engage, and connect entrepreneurs. Every Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m., one or two early-stage startups present their companies to a diverse audience of their peers, mentors, educators, and advisors.

■ Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night | Dec. 6

Hellzapoppin Circus Side Show is a renowned spectacle of entertainment drawing from the rich history of circus, sideshow, and vaudeville acts. Originating in the United States, this world-traveling troupe provides a unique blend of thrilling performances that captivate and surprise audiences. The revue is the brainchild of Bryce “The Govna” Graves and features a rotating cast of performers skilled in various daring feats, including fire-eating, sword-swallowing, acrobatics, and contortion. The performances often stretch the boundaries of belief, inspired by the legendary P.T. Barnum and Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

■ Frozen Sing-Along and Meet & Greet | Dec. 7

Step into the enchanting world of Arendelle and join us for an experience filled with music, laughter and the heartwarming tale of sisters Elsa and Anna as we watch the beloved film Frozen on the big screen in Kemper theater at Exploration Place. Throughout the movie there will be fun surprises, interactive cues, a special appearance by Olaf and vocal performances by Elsa and Anna themselves.

■ Joe Gatto’s Night of Comedy | Dec. 7
Where: Orpheum Theatre
Joe Gatto, a well-known comedian, actor, and producer, is best known for the hit TV shows “Impractical Jokers” and “The Misery Index.” He is one of the founding members of The Tenderloins Comedy Troupe who has toured with a live comedy show to sold-out crowds across the world, including legendary arenas, such as Madison Square Garden in New York and the O2 Arena in London.

Experience the wonder of the very first Christmas! Your entire family is invited to step back in time and witness the pageantry of the nativity story unfold right before your eyes. Enjoy a 100-voice choir, symphony orchestra, and surprises along the way in this spectacular musical celebration. The first 1,000 guests receive an interactive gift to be used during the show. Come early to visit Bethlehem Square, where you’ll join other travelers arriving in Bethlehem on that first Christmas. This immersive experience for kids of all ages will have opportunities to visit different village shops for refreshments and souvenirs. Doors open one hour prior. Red Stocking Breakfast | Dec. 9

Come join us for breakfast at the WSU Metroplex to benefit the Kansas Children’s Service League’s Child Abuse Prevention programs in Sedgwick, Sumner & Butler Counties! Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door and children 10 and under eat for free! The event includes local celebrities and volunteers serving food, a variety of fun activities like pictures with Santa Claus, and opportunities to enter raffles or bid on silent auction items from area retailers.

Christmas Open House at River City Sweet Shop | Dec. 9

This is a Christmas Open House. We will have Mickey and Minnie Mouse dressed in their Christmas costumes. We will have a photographer as well. There will be a decorate your own cookie station. You can make an ornament to hang on your tree. We will have a hot cocoa bar and samples. Everything will be 20% off in the bakery that day.

■ Wichita Symphony Orchestra: A Tribute to George Gershwin | Dec. 9

More Gershwin, please! And your requests are answered in time to make this evening a “‘s wonderful” holiday celebration for every music lover. From the Broadway stages of Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Aspects of Love, Lisa Vroman, called “one of American Musical Theater’s most beautiful voices,” [Cameron Mackintosh] brings a delectable program of George Gershwin’s memorable and recognizable songs. The young American pianist Clayton Stephenson joins this heartfelt tribute to America’s beloved composer. A Van Cliburn Competition Finalist in 2022, Stephenson reprises the Gershwin Concerto he performed in the Finals that won him the audience’s cheers and high marks from the jury.

The pig is often asked if there are classes for kids at Flying Pig Improv. So occasionally, we invite people to bring their kids (or grandkids or Littles or nieces, etc.) to play with them. (Kids need to be accompanied by a participating adult; it’s not a drop-off class.) Then we all play improv games together and take improv home to the rest of the family.
