My lovely visit to the Latham Saloon in Latham, KS

 Latham Saloon

For the past few years, one of the restaurants outside of Wichita that has been on my list to visit is Latham Saloon in Latham, KS. To add fuel to that, when I ask for suggestions of restaurants to visit, what’s one of the most popular suggestions? It’s Latham Saloon.

Finally, I made the drive with two local bloggers, The Kansas Gastronomist and Lets.Eat.ICT. It was so worth it.

Latham, KS is roughly 50 minutes outside of Wichita, with a population in the 90s. It’s an easy drive down US-400 that took us past Augusta and Leon.

Soon enough, we arrived in Latham, where drove around town waiting for the saloon to open. We passed a cemetery and the Latham Zoo, which was really someone’s front yard filled with I believe sheep and goats.

Then we saw someone opening the door to Latham Saloon and made our way inside. I loved the vibe inside and immediately felt like it was the type of place I would enjoy.

The owners were a husband/wife duo who handled everything at Latham Saloon. They were very engaging and just felt like two good, hardworking people trying to make a small-town restaurant work.

Our one regret was not showing up during dinner time when steaks and prime ribs were on the menu. During the day, it was burgers, sandwiches and whatever specials were on tap.

For lunch, we went with the chicken BLT sub, a burger with all the fixings and the special of the day, which was an Italian sloppy Joe.

Personally, I had the burger and tots with a side of Natural Light. But we split all the meals between the three of us in some capacity.

What was the favorite dish at Latham Saloon? For me, it was the Italian sloppy Joe. For starters, I love sloppy Joes and an Italian take with a bit of marinara was excellent. The bun was also a great pairing as it firmly held everything together.

The others really enjoyed the chicken BLT sub, but we also liked the burger. Everything was great.

Between the food and the people, the Latham Saloon may have been our favorite stop during our road trip. I know people have been raving about their steak nights, and hopefully one evening I can make the return trip to Latham to check it out.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy

  1. I’m not the business owner of the Coneburg inn in Peabody Kansas, but I do enjoy going there and from the looks of the Latham place you will enjoy this place also. The 1 hour drive is nice.
