A visit to Leon, KS for the Prairie House Cafe

For as close as Leon, KS is, I’ve never stopped to visit the city and the restaurants therein. But after a recent road trip with two local bloggers, The Kansas Gastronomist and Lets.Eat.ICT, I made the drive to Leon to visit Prairie House Cafe.

Prairie House Cafe also doubles as a lodge, as there are a few rooms visitors can rent. It’s a popular spot for travelers such as hunters coming through Leon. One such popular visitor who stopped by late last year was John Dutton… some people may refer to him as Kevin Costner.

We arrived at Prairie House Cafe in the morning, so ordered breakfast.

While asking for suggestions on what to order, one of the regulars walked up and suggested the Miles’ Stack. It was 1 biscuit cut in half, stacked with hash browns, sausage topped with sausage gravy and 2 eggs cooked any way you like it.

Seriously, if you order it, you may have to consider reserving one of the rooms upstairs for the nap. This weighed about as much as one of John Dutton’s cattle on the Yellowstone ranch.

The Miles’ Stack was possibly one of the heaviest meals I have ever ordered during breakfast. There was so much going on, but it was so good that I couldn’t stop myself.

Moments later, another regular walked into Prairie House Cafe, looked at my dish and knew what it was. Then proceeded to tell us, the meal was named after his son, Miles.

The regular would go on to tell us stories about Leon while I sat there and tried to finish my Miles’ Stack, which I failed at doing. It would be a perfect option for two people to share.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Prairie House Cafe. It was a nice little stop with good food, service and awesome regulars who engaged with everyone in the restaurants. That must be the small-town family vibe of Leon, KS. Next up, I’ll have to return to check out the pizza restaurant in Leon.

Happy Dining,
