As mentioned earlier, the cash only restaurant focuses on just carnitas. Signs outside the building and along 13th street advertise just that, “Carnitas”. The Carnitas Morelia signs were easy to spot and the only reason I even noticed the restaurant.

Once inside, they spruced up the place a bit and added more seating.

As I was getting ready to order, who I believe to be the owner, started talking about his process for making carnitas. He told me he was involved with restaurants in Hutchinson and wanted to bring his style of making carnitas that involved a slower process to Wichita.

Carnitas Morelia sold tacos, burritos, tortas, and carnitas by the pound. On the weekends, though, coctel camron and menudo are available.

I went with six tacos carnitas and one burrito carnitas. Don’t quote me on it, but I believe the tacos were $4 a piece and the burrito was around $10. My total for six tacos and a burrito was roughly $35.

For the portion size, Carnitas Morelia’s tacos were pretty filling. The double tortillas tacos came with just the carnitas; I was given the option to add pork skin over the top and did so on half of them. My order was to go, so a cup of pico de gallo was placed on the side to dress the tacos as we saw fit.

The burrito was also a thick, hefty meal stuffed with plenty of carnitas and rice inside.

How did everything taste, though?

I was a big fan. While I believe the goat in carnitas can be found at Mi Lindo Michoacán, I think Carnitas Morelia was a very viable alternative that I could order from again with no hesitation. The carnitas were soft, tender, not overly salty and pretty flavorful. I’d wager to say that dining in would be the most ideal situation.

Overall, I’d give this place a thumbs up and recommend it to others. With this place being open every day with extended hours, it’s a convenient stop for those looking to pick up carnitas. Plus the gentleman I spoke to seemed very into his craft and loved what he did. It’s always cool to see people passionate about what they do. The owner was passionate about his carnitas and it was displayed in the food. Check them out. Carnitas Morelia… 3088 W. 13th St.
